About this machine
The Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ is the straight-and-zigzag version of Sailrite's portable heavy-duty walking-foot platform. It uses systems 135x16 and 135x17 needles from #10 to #22, sews straight stitches up to 6 mm long and zigzag stitches from 0 to 5 mm wide, and is rated up to 550 stitches per minute with the current WorkerB balance wheel.
The Z is the important suffix
Sailrite states that LSZ adds zigzag to the straight stitch shared with the LS. The LSZ also has a stitch-width lever and left-center-right needle positioning. Those controls are not present on the straight-stitch-only LS.
Why Sailrite points sailmakers toward LSZ
Sailrite's own project chart says sails should be sewn with zigzag because it distributes stress and allows more flexibility in the seam.
